Japan's Hawaii - If you want to enjoy hot springs at a bargain price in Atami, this is the place

As it is an old hotel chain, the building and facilities were certainly old. However, the well-cleaned interior and bedding more than made up for this with a comfortable stay.
The open-air bath was spacious and comfortable, and the cypress bath had a well-used "history" and you could see the "effort" that went into maintaining and maintaining it.

Worst Room

I stayed in Tsuta, a room with an open-air bath. This is the worst room. It is dark, musty, old and smelly, cracks in the walls, damp enough to rust the inside of the in-room safe. Because there is an open-air bath on the veranda of the room and another room in front of it, the 365-day room does not receive sunlight or wind. There is a ground floor, but it looks like a basement. Because of the open-air baths, the windows cannot be opened, the air conditioning regularly emits high notes, the toilets as well as the rooms smell and the ventilation fans are noisy. I sprayed quite a bit of the "Fabrice" that came with it, but you can't cheat the smell. Also, I couldn't turn off the water in the open-air bath, and I couldn't sleep because of the noise of the water playing all night. I think it's worse than prison. Yet it costs 4,400 yen per person more than the average room. I think it is better to use "Tsuta" as an open-air bath room for free time rental. Then vacationers have no complaints. If there's no change, I definitely think it's better to refuse 'ivy' or use a regular guest room. Ivy is the worst.

The hot spring is a natural spring

I used it to visit hot springs when I stayed at the Itoen Hotel Annex. The hot springs at the Itoen Hotel Annex are heated and circulated, but the hot springs at Matsukawakan are direct from the source. The open-air bath and cypress bath in the basement were especially good.

I was looking forward to staying at the Itoen Hotel in Atami because it was nice.

We got a room with an open-air bath, but there was a pond in front of the bath and we could see a large dead carp. It smelled fishy, whether it was the pond or the sewer. The room's ventilation fan was loud and there was a lot of dust. There were long hairs lying around. My body was itchy, probably because there were mites. The room also seemed to be two guest rooms combined into one, and when you opened the locked door, there was another guest room. It was very creepy. So we locked the room and only used one of them. We've been to Itoen in Atami before, but Atami had a wider variety of food, and there wasn't much to eat. We were looking forward to the plan that included grilled crab shells, but it was salty and not very tasty. It's old, so it can't be helped, but I think they could clean it a bit more. The large public bath was nice, but there was a person with a tattoo on his back in it.

A cheap and pleasant stay

Matsukawakan is one of the many Itoen hotels. The chain offers cheap accommodation with two buffet meals. The price varies among hotels from 6,800 yen to about 9,800 yen. In the same street there are three Itoen chain hotels and guests are free to use the hot springs in the other hotels. There should be 12 of them altogether.
Pros:
1. The hotel itself is a bit old but it is quite well maintained. The room is old but very clean. They said in the plan that there is no bath only toilet in the room but this is not true. There is a bathroom but they just advise guests not to use it.
2. Guests can choose their favorite yukata (the traditional pajamas). There are four different colors.
3. The karaoke room is free of charge.
4. Free wifi is provided in the lobby and it is quite fast.
5. Free drinks and alcohol (beer, whisky, hot and cold sake) are provided during dinner. A big plus!!
6. Many choices for dinner buffet
7. Staff are polite and friendly (but they do not speak English).
8. It is quite fun to try that many hot springs.
Cons:
The only thing that I would say is that it is an old hotel. This doesn't bother me as it is clean and ridiculously cheap.
Overall it is a pleasant stay. And I will be back in December.
