Premium rate for service on a budget
The first worrying sign was when we emailed en route asking if the hotel has parking, to get a vague and not-very-helpful one line response: ‘there is parking available near our hotel’. For the record the hotel has a car for shuttling guests, but they have to be in the mood for giving service and you have to ask the right questions.
So we walked with our cases 10 minutes to the hotel and then waited a further 10 mins for a receptionist to arrive at her reception.
Things picked up when we made it to our room - it was clean and spacious with fantastic views over the medina.
Dinner was very quiet - an extensive Moroccan salad with chicken tagine-unadventurous and easily bettered by our meal at Palais de Faraj the next evening.
Breakfast was a big disappointment - an assortment of fried and sugared foods with melon; the coffee looked and tasted like lightly coloured water.
During our stay the guest experience was underwhelming and slow. There seemed to be no interaction between staff or team spirit; staff called other by mobile to get the answer to basic questions.
On a positive, the Palais de Fes has a super location on edge of the medina with the sound of kids playing in square below. But until they have a decent manager in place to sort out the guest experience, food and beverage, and bring the staff together, there is no way this hotel earns the right to charge premium rates.

Unforgettable weekend-end
The panoramic views of the medina from our suite were absolutely mesmerizing.
