Huge recommendation.
This hostel is set back from the "main street" and is built in a nice exclusive style. In the morning you wake up to the sound of roosters crowing, tropical birds and occasionally the roar of a monkey.
The hosts are friendly and extremely service minded. They provide guidance on trips and are helpful in booking everything from means of transport to wonderful nature experiences.
The food served is delicious

Big Recommendation!!
We spent our days enjoying some great tours arranged by Denis. First taking part in an afternoon horse ride with our local guide Arnival, who cares greatly for the horses and lead us into the jungle at the base of the Maderas volcano. Upon our journey we saw Howler Monkeys and many of the local birds, all brightly coloured and beautiful. One of which also being the Urraca, inspiring the name of the hostel. Continuing our ride we were shown to the lakeside beach which gave us a great opportunity as confident riders to let loose and have a gallop.
The following day we embarked upon our second tour which was the hike up the Maderas volcano. This was a challenging but rewarding day of 3 hours trekking uphill, followed by another 2.5 down. When reaching the top we were greeted by a beautiful view point over the Nicaragua lake, a tree covered crater and a Lagoon at the top of the Maderas. After eating our lunches, also prepared by Denis, and enjoying the scenery for an hour we set back off to make our way 'home' again. The rest of the afternoon was spent enjoying the hammocks and a well deserved rest.
On our third and final full day Denis arranged a kayaking tour for us from the Playa Peru along the Río Istián. We boarded our kayaks and battled the wind for 30 minutes to make it as far as the river, but when entering the river all the wind subsided and we slowly paddled our way through the thin passage left clear of marine lettuce. We found some locals waist deep in water, batting the lettuce to entice fish into their net. Further on our journey down this short stretch of river we found horses, cattle and a tortoise all grazing on the abundance of marine plantation. Our Guide Denile spoke Spanish and we gathered information from him about the local wildlife and birds, albeit only as far as our broken Spanish would allow.
I highly recommend Urracca Loca to those travelling Ometepe either solo or in a group, with an authentic feel to the area but also access to some lovely local restaurants.
The area is generally very quiet with tourism currently lower than normal. It's therefore a great time to travel for those that value tranquillity, but the island really does have a uniqueness and individuality that will shine through in all circumstances.

Absolutely LOVE this place ! ! !
The hostel is pretty new and the two owners are doing a great job to make it the quiet oasis of peace that it is. This is not the place if you want to party and get drunk, there are other places for that on the island. But this is a great place to relax and unwind and to meet like minded traveler whose interests go beyond traveling just for the sake to get wasted.
On my overland trip from NYC to Panama this was definitely my favourite hostel on the whole trip!
