Grand Elegance
The hotel staff are lovely and kind. We were consistently offered chilled bottles of water and always had a fresh bottle on our bedside tables each day. Oliver in the valet area was a delight to chat with and Alejandro at the front desk was gracious. He even sent a bottle of Chardonnay to our room.
The hotel room was elegant and the bathroom was clean and lovely. High-end bath products are provided for one's stay. We felt very safe at this hotel . The location is wonderful if you're interested in walking to the Gas Lamp District. We were able to walk to fabulous restaurants and pubs. As a picky traveler, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the US Grant again. My only cons to mention are: a very tiny bedside "table" on one side of the bed, and an issue with the room AC not being as cold as indicated on the thermostat. That being said, I loved our stay at this beautiful, historic gem.

A Timeless Gem in the Heart of San Diego
Location:
Perfectly situated in the heart of San Diego, this hotel makes it easy to explore the city on foot. Whether you’re here for work or leisure, you’ll find yourself just steps away from great dining, shopping, and cultural attractions.
Parking:
Valet parking is the only option, but the service is excellent—always friendly and efficient. I opted for Uber to and from the airport, which was incredibly convenient.
Check-in:
I arrived late at night and was greeted with a warm smile. The front desk team made me feel immediately welcome, providing a quick yet thorough overview of the amenities. This was my second stay at the hotel (my first was pre-COVID), and I was happy to find that the service remains top-notch.
Room:
Thanks to my Marriott status, I was upgraded to a lovely corner suite. The room was spotless, featuring high-quality linens, luxurious bath products, and thoughtful touches like a mini fridge, slippers, robes, and a turndown service that felt extra special. Since this hotel is over 100 years old, each room has its own unique charm. Mine, located on the 11th floor, was incredibly quiet. While there are minor signs of wear due to the building’s age, housekeeping does an exceptional job maintaining cleanliness and comfort.
Amenities:
While there’s no pool, the well-equipped fitness center is a great alternative for staying active during your stay.
Food & Beverage:
The hotel features an onsite restaurant and room service. Though I didn’t have the chance to dine in, the restaurant was always buzzing with guests—a promising sign!
Would I Stay Again?
Absolutely! Whether you’re visiting for business or a getaway, this hotel offers an exceptional experience. I look forward to returning on my next trip to San Diego.

Historical. Updated. Comfortable and friendly.
Overall I recommend for a mix of comfort, relaxation and history. I also think it is cool this place is owned and operated still by Native American tribe.

Great Stay
This was a relief as it was a little pricey for our dates of stay. Received a wonderful upgrade for Ambassador status and late check out was granted. There was no welcome amenity from the hotel but they kindly organized one from my travel agent at his request.
Restaurant: We had both dinner and breakfast on property. Dinner was very good, though on the heavy side. Breakfast service was excellent and we enjoyed the mini muffins.
Sleep quality was good and room was huge. Worked from the dining table for a couple of days and it was conducive to sitting at my laptop.
I was happy with this option for San Diego and would recommend it.

Everyone we encountered smiled and was friendly and helpful.
We mentioned it was our anniversary at check in and they upgraded our room for us.
The hotel itself is beautiful and impeccably clean.
The room was beautiful and spacious and the bed and bedding were cozy and comfortable.
The valet team were so helpful and nice.
We had dinner in the lounge in the hotel. Dinner and drinks were fantastic and the vibe was cozy and comfortable.
I honestly can't wait to book another stay here!
